Authors Note: In October 2000 a similar case of nerve decompression was attempted by the author without the use of a customised jig. In this case the nerve was found to run obliquely through the orbital rim and was inadvertently partially sectioned during the procedure. Although the nerve was repaired with microsurgical techniques, pain recurred three months post operation. Whilst there must be caution in interpreting such results, it is advocated that nerve section would not have occurred if a customised jig had been used. Further research and development is urged in this subject. |
